Uralchem-Uralkali’s Humanitarian Shipment Has Reached Kenya and is Being Unloaded at Mombasa Port

Uralchem-Uralkali Group announces that its consignment of 34,000 tonnes of fertilisers for Kenya has reached the country’s port of Mombasa. The shipment, comprising potash, urea and NPKS, is currently being unloaded.

It is the Group’s second donation in a series of shipments of its fertilisers from the ports and warehouses in the European Union to developing countries that face food insecurity. The previous humanitarian delivery leaving from an EU port comprised 20,000 tonnes of complex fertiliser and was officially handed over to Malawi in early March.

Both shipments were facilitated by the United Nations’ World Food Programme (WFP), which chartered vessels to transport the fertilisers. In turn, the Group covered the sea freight and other delivery costs.

Uralchem-Uralkali is committed to donating a total of approximately 300,000 tonnes of mineral fertilisers to developing nations to alleviate the ongoing unprecedented global food crisis. The contribution also supports efforts to meet UN Sustainable Development Goal #2 - “End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture”.

Dmitry Konyaev, Uralchem CEO:

Mineral fertilisers are vital for global food security. The disruptions in international supply of crop nutrients that we all witnessed lately have severely increased the risks of famine in many parts of the planet and put hundreds of millions of people at the brink of starvation. As one of the world’s largest producers and exporters of mineral fertilisers, we understand our exceptional role and responsibility in securing food supply to those who need it. At the same time, we also believe that today’s alarming global hunger crisis can only be alleviated by urgent and collective action on all levels. We look forward to seeing Kenyan farmers putting the donated fertilisers to good use and reaping a fruitful harvest.
