Arround 96 % of worldwide yam production belong to Africa. Most of the world’s production comes from West Africa representing 94%, with Nigeria alone producing 71%.

Yam production is declining in some traditional areas due to declining soil fertility, increasing pest pressures and the high cost of labor. Therefore, the use of high-quality, properly selected fertilizers is a paramount task for increasing the yield.
